β What Does MAIB Mean?
MAIB stands for the
Marine Accident Investigation Branch.
It is the United Kingdomβs independent marine accident
investigation organisation.
The MAIB examines marine accidents and incidents to establish
what happened, understand why they happened and identify
lessons that may prevent similar accidents in the future.

responsibility.

punishment.

π Which Vessels May Be Investigated?
MAIB investigations can involve UK-registered vessels operating
anywhere in the world, as well as eligible vessels involved in
accidents within United Kingdom territorial waters.
This can include a UK-flagged vessel of any size, whether it is
being used privately or commercially.
